Free Cell Phone Upgrades: How Do You Know If You Are Getting The Greatest Deal? By Rolanda Vang

A “cell phone upgrade” is where an existing customer of a network (eg T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange, O2, 3G, Virgin and so on), who has been with that network for about 1 year since getting their last cell phone, gets a new cell phone from the network at a free, or cheap discount price, in return for agreeing to stick with that network for another year, under a 12 month contract agreement. The client keeps his or her present cell phone number, and stays with the same network. This is known as a “cell phone upgrade” – often it is a free cell phone upgrade!
To get the very best offer for a free or cheap cell phone upgrade, you should understand this. The cell phone networks pay a cell phone dealer more for a new customer (new cell phone contract) than they do for a cell phone upgrade customer. This odd scenario has been the same for many years. The only network that seems to pay cell phone dealers almost as much for an upgrade customer as for a new free cell phone customer is Three (often known as three or 3G). The other cell phone networks simply do not seem to value their current customers as much!

The craziness of this situation is that it encourages you to be disloyal to your present network.

The amount that a cell phone vendor can give to you’ll depend on how much money he’s making. If he’s making more cash from a ‘new’ cell phone contract customer than for an upgrade customer, then he’ll be able to give the ‘new’ cell phone contract customer a much bigger discount or a free cell phone or perhaps more!
Now, did you know that instead of upgrading your telephone on the same network (where you probably won’t get such a good deal or a free cell phone and so on), you can switch to a NEW and totally different network AND maintain your current cell phone number? This is true.
Now, knowing that you may maintain your cell phone number, and that you can normally get a greater deal as a ‘new’ customer on another network, what are you going to do?
You’ll be able to simply become a ‘new’ customer on a different network … this new network then treats you as a new customer, gives you all of the free cell phone bonuses and gifts, and so on, AND you keep your cell phone number!
So by simply looking around at all the offers available to you on all the other networks
Before you’re taking the jump and switch to a different network for your free cell phone upgrade, think about this …
Imagine you call your present network to inform them that you’re thinking of leaving them to switch to another mobile network. Typically, that individual you speak to will be on a commission to keep your business: ie they will earn a bit of cash if they’ll persuade you to stick with that cell phone network.This means that you can use this to your advantage.
Tell them that you’ve got had a great offer from another network (and don’t lie – they will most probably know exactly what you could get with another network). Merely ask them if they’ll equal or better the deal offered by this other network.
If they’ll equal it, then it’s most likely not worth the trouble of switching cell phone networks and the paperwork. It is not too much trouble to do the switch, however, clearly it’s simpler to stick with your present cell phone network.
Free cell phone upgrades can be received in this way quite simply by understanding how the system works and how the money works in cell phones and free cell phone upgrades.
So next time, simply ask your present cell phone network if they’ll better the free cell phone offer from another network.
