Wireless Telephone Service Providers
The Most Advantages Of Voice Over IP Technology
The internet works by breaking large streams of data into smaller streams called “packets” which are broken down by the sending computer and reassembled by the computer at the receiving end. These pieces of information can travel over multiple media types, including wifi. With progress, computers are able to send and receive larger packets, so media like video and music are no longer bogging down computers indefinitely. The next logical step was to create a telephone that can take advantage of the technology. Voice Over IP (VOIP) is here, and it saves a lot of money every month versus a traditional land line with long distance charges.
For Voice Over IP to work, a special modem called an Analogue Terminal Adapter – ATA for short. This special modem-like device converts the analog signal (your voice) into a digital signal that the computer can understand. Because the data is digital, it is very pure. Today’s VoIP calls can be so clear that it is not uncommon for the receiving party to think they have been disconnected if there is a moment of silence. For the calls to be that clear, you will need a high-speed connection such as cable or fiber optics. DSL could work, but the others are better since if you have DSL you probably also have a traditional phone. Fortunately high-speed connections are fairly standard in all metropolitan areas and in most rural ones. Do you think VoIP will work for you? Here’s a list of common providers:
– Vonage: Vonage is one of the biggest, oldest, and most known of the group. They were trailblazers in making VoIP mainstream, and they offer a lot of services via their very aggressive marketing. They offer excellent service, but they are one of the more expensive options at $25 per month for the standard unlimited plan. International calls cost extra.
– Sunrocket: Sunrocket offers reasonably reliable service starting as low as $17 per month. They are fairly new to the world of VoIP, but the technology has been around for a while and their low price gives them an edge over other services.
– Mainstream telephone companies: The big companies do not like losing their ground to upstarts like Vonage and Sunrocket, so companies like Verizon that offer traditional telephones are now also offering a version of VoIP. They cost about the same as Vonage, so they have trouble competing. Their one edge is they may combine bills, so instead of being billed for phone and cable separately you would see it all on the same bill.
– Upstarts: Much like every other technology since the beginning of electricity, the prevalence and relative stability resulting from years of fine tuning makes it easier for small startups to offer their own version of VoIP services. Often they offer rock-bottom prices to try to attract business, but be smart and shop around. A start-up may be a great deal, but you don’t want to be left in the lurch if they go belly up.
Regardless of which plan you choose for receiving VOIP service, the end result is that you will save money. Your usual telephone service charges considerably additional for basic phone service than VOIP companies charge for superior service with all the extras like call waiting, three ways calling, and so on. In further words, you get additional for your money with VOIP, plain and simple.
